If we have the power to destroy the Earth, it is automatically our responsibility to protect it.

gaea (n); the ancient Greek goddess of the earth, mother of the Titans.

Etymology: (greek) gaîa: earth

-philia (n); a word combined with others to have the general sense “unnatural attraction” or “tendency”.

Etymology: (greek) philía: friendship, affinity

An unnatural attraction toward the earth. Sounds sort of oxymoronic, doesn’t it? Well, regardless of what the dictionary might define it as, to me it describes the desire to take responsibility of our actions while working toward a more greener, sustainable future.

I’m sure the terms “green” and “sustainable” are terms you have heard before, but you might be wondering why greener and more sustainable alternatives are so important. I’m not sure if I ever questioned this myself, but I have to admit that I was curious for a very long time.

In June of 2009 I made a decision to live a greener, more sustainable lifestyle. I educated myself on how to do this and I made step by step transitions to change what I buy and eat and how I live. This blog was created to document my transition and to educate others about how to change and why it’s so important to change. I am still learning as I go and even though I’ve found that I cannot change everything, I have learned that even the smallest choices can make the biggest difference. I hope this site helps inspire you to do the same.
